Wanna read a story? Wanna read a story with cyborgs, corporate media exploitation and drone murder? Wanna read a story dedicated to the guy who married Miku Hatsune? Of course you fucking do.
Our first release, Virtua Pop by Abi Vasquez, is a short (20k words) story set in her future vision of Leicester, and the first story in the Abandonware series.
Abandonware is a sprawling (what the shits would call ‘expanded’) setting, full of all the nasty darkness we didn’t want to put into the one prestige novel we have coming out. It’s horrid, all full of chipped corners and blinking bulbs, like cracking open a robot’s carapace to find it’s full of human organs. We’ve got a lot more of it for you to read.
But for now, Virtua Pop is the first glance. It’s got heart. Zee, the protagonist, is lovely. She fixes dolls, the adult kind. The AI-powered kind of adult dolls. She’s part engineer, part therapist, part RSPCA. What, you didn’t think the kind of people who buy smart sex dolls are the type to treat them well, did you? The story is everything that happens after she returns home to find her computer unexpectedly singing to itself.
So yeah, Virtua Pop releasing on our itch page on the 29th of July (though rumour has it you can get early access by signing up to our mailing list). There’s a lot more you’ll want to read there.
